Who We Are

The OZVENA Choral Association, based in Vranov nad Topľou, is one of the most prominent choral organizations in Slovakia. Our mission is to spread the beauty of choral singing, develop the aesthetic sensibilities of children and youth, and represent Slovak choral music at home and abroad.

Establishment
Ozvena’s roots date back to 1980, when the first choirs began performing under this name at the Municipal Cultural Center. The independent association was formally established in 1994.

History and Leadership

The formal establishment of the association in 1994 was preceded by a rich history of activity by several choirs. The key figure behind Ozvena is its chairwoman, Mrs. Vilma Krauspeová. With her tireless energy and expert leadership, she has built Ozvena into a respected institution. For her decades of work, she has been honored with the City of Vranov nad Topľou Award and recognized by Matica Slovenská for her worldwide representation of Slovakia.

Our Ensembles

The OZVENA association currently umbrellas several choral ensembles, comprising more than 140 singers of all age categories. Each choir has its specific repertoire and artistic profile.

International Presence

OZVENA’s choirs are regular guests at international festivals and choral events. We have represented Slovakia in many countries across the globe:

Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Serbia, Germany, Austria, Poland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and even Canada.

The association is a proud member of the prestigious international choral federations Europa Cantat and Pueri Cantores, fostering artistic exchange and continuous growth.

Vranov Choral Festivities

One of the cornerstones of our activity is organizing the international non-competitive festival Vranov Choral Festivities (Vranovské zborové slávnosti). Every year in June, this festival transforms Vranov nad Topľou into a hub of world choral art, hosting choirs from across the globe and offering a rich program of concerts, workshops, and seminars.

Education and Collaboration

Since 1997, the association has maintained a close collaboration with the Private School of Art (SZUŠ) in Vranov nad Topľou. This synergy allows children and youth to receive high-quality professional education while immediately applying it in choral performance. Together, we shape the next generation of Slovak artists.
